Welcome to Emma McDuff, our new Student Ambassador at Oatridge
Hi, my name is Emma McDuff, and I am a new Student Ambassador for Scotlands Rural College.
I have recently returned to studying and my current course is NC Animal Care at the Oatridge Campus. I am hoping to progress this to study Veterinary Nursing.
Like many of you adjusting to virtual life and little human interaction this has provided challenges but overall I feel my student experience has not been affected massively by this. Our fresher’s/induction week was still very much interactive. It including breakfast mornings, yoga, cooking clubs and several meetings via Teams to allow us to find out who the members of staff are and the roles they play within our course.
Learning at home can be difficult to adjust to but I found that the members of staff were helpful as they had provided us with tips and tricks on how to study at home before we started and we have found new and interactive ways to stay in touch with other students for example; teams, what’s app, etc.
As a new Student Ambassador, I want to educate people on what options are out there to study something they are passionate about. Whether that is someone like myself who is starting their studies a little later in life or if it is a school leaver who is looking for options in the Agricultural sector. I am keen to help do this through many platforms whether this may be photographs, videos of what we do on a daily basis or attending events (once allowed to do so) and chatting people through what options we can provide. As I feel SRUC has given me a chance to study something I love and I am passionate about.
