Tomas Zuffa – HND Equine Studies
Tomas Zuffa travelled from his home country Slovakia, to Scotland, in order to study at SRUC. Tom is currently studying for HND in Equine Studies having achieved the Higher National Certificate last year with Distinction.
Tom originally practiced law for several years before returning to education as a mature student to follow his passion for horses.
“I graduated from law and practised it for seven years. I had a good job and great colleagues. But I didn’t enjoy the content of the work so much. It didn’t bring me joy and satisfaction and even though I was trying to do my best I simply didn’t have a passion for it. Horses, on the other hand, had my full attention! I’ve admired them my whole life but had my first riding lesson in 2008, when I was 23. I instantly fell in love with it. Two of my great grandads spent their lives working with horses – I assume it must be in my blood.”
“Over the years, horses became an essential part of my life. I decided to make a change from my original career and try a career in the equine industry. Since there is no tradition of a higher education in equine studies in my home country I looked for opportunities abroad.”
“SRUC is a great place to study in many respects – from approachable, supportive and highly qualified staff and friendly classmates. The course is interesting and filled with relevant content with a great balance of theory and practice. SRUC have excellent facilities and in a beautiful location.”
“I have had a great experience at SRUC thanks to the lecturer, other staff and classmates. From the personal point of view, the greatest achievement of my career so far is that I am a happier person doing something I love and have a passion for.”
