Student Profile – Jillian Gordon
Jillian Gordon from Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders studied Bioscience and Applied Animal Science at SRUC Edinburgh campus before embarking on a PhD. We asked her why she originally chose SRUC and what she plans to do once she completes her PhD.
Why did you choose to study Animal Science? After learning about the course, I felt that Animal Science would be very interesting and had plenty of variation within the curriculum.
What made you choose SRUC? I choose to study at SRUC as I loved the courses they had to offer as well as the fantastic facilities and small class sizes they have.
What have been your highlights from studying at SRUC? My highlights from studying at SRUC have to be the field trips. Getting to visit various farms and consulting facilities always brought the courses to life.
What do you want to do after you complete your course/what are you doing now? I would love to move into lecturing when I have completed my PhD.
Any particular obstacles you have overcome? In my first year of SRUC I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, with help from the team at SRUC I learned how to deal with this efficiently and not let it stop me progressing in education.
How was life on campus? Campus life is fun and friendly. There are social areas available to relax and catch up with friends.
How did you find the facilities at SRUC? The facilities at SRUC are fantastic, as a student you have access to a all the education facilities you could need as well as gyms and cafeteria recourses.
Advice or words of wisdom to prospective SRUC students
If I had any words of wisdom to future students it would be; you can achieve everything you want as long as you are willing to work for it.
