Student Ambassadors Q&A Session – Why SRUC?
We recently asked our Student Ambassadors a series of questions, and recorded their answers, to help you understand a bit more about SRUC and what makes studying with us great. Watch our video below:
Why did you choose SRUC?
“I chose SRUC because I was looking to change my career into working in the great outdoors. I researched Scotland’s Rural College and it seemed like the ideal place. I was also very impressed by the open days, I attended an open day at the Dumfries campus and at the Riverside campus in Ayr and I thought meeting the lectures and everything was excellent. We had lots of in-depth conversations and some one-on-one time with the lecturers to ask questions about the college and that’s why I decided to study at SRUC.”
“I chose SRUC because I did not want an office-based job.”
“I chose SRUC because it has fantastic facilities such as the hyperpropagation unit and the library.”
“I grew up on a farm and I’ve been surrounded by animals my whole life so naturally they are my great love and I’ve known from the very beginning that I wanted to work with animals. So when I came over to Scotland I started looking around for a course that could bridge the gap to vet nursing and SRUC at Barony offered just that. The Animal Nursing Assistant course is perfect, it’s offering me the educational knowledge that I need as well as the practical knowledge and experience that I need to strive to be a vet nurse.”
“I chose SRUC because I wanted to learn practical and specialist skills.”
“I orignially chose SRUC as my university due to a recommendation from a friend as well as from support staff at my high school.”
“I chose to study at SRUC because they had the course that I really wanted to do which is Horticulture with Plantsmanship. They offered this in Edinburgh and in conjunction with the Royal Botanic Gardens, which made it really appealing. The fact that both institutions also have very high quality teaching and have very good reputations was also a big factor.”
“I chose SRUC because it is quite close to my home and they have a lot of practical courses and I enjoy working hands on.”
