New student ambassador for Agriculture at Barony
We are delighted to welcome our new student ambassadors at Barony this year. Jake is currently studying agriculture.
Hello, my name is Jake Keappock and I am an agriculture student here at the SRUC Barony Campus. I am currently studying HND agriculture year 2. I am 22 years of age and have been at Barony Campus since September 2019.
The reason I chose to study agriculture was from my time growing up in rural Ireland. My family have been involved in farming and were both into equine and cattle. I have worked on farms for a good part of my life and gained a great interest in agriculture and this has led me to study agriculture. I have worked on beef, dairy, equine and sheep farms and thoroughly enjoy this type of work as it is a very rewarding industry.
I completed the HNC in agriculture here at Barony in 2019/2020 and this broadened my skills in agriculture and has allowed to progress to the HND agriculture year 2. The subjects I enjoyed the most in HNC agriculture were livestock and grassland. I am currently on the HND agriculture course and the subjects I am looking forward to doing are nutrition, livestock systems, pasture management and farm buildings.
When I am finished my HND in agriculture I hope to apply for my honours degree in agriculture which will allow me to pursue various jobs in the agriculture industry while allowing me to also have my own farm too. The agriculture industry is very rewarding, and I would recommend the various agriculture courses here at the barony to anyone wishing to pursue a career in agriculture.
