Stuart Hynds – Vet Nursing

Stuart Hynds worked in retail since finishing school but has always had a passion for animals. After he helped an injured owl he realised he wanted to follow what he loved and decided to start college to train to become a Veterinary Nurse. Now 27 years of age, Stuart is an example showing there is no wrong age to start studying something you love.

“I study City and Guilds Level 3 diploma in Veterinary Nursing. I had a lack of fulfilment working in retail so I decided to make the change. I originally started my course at Edinburgh College but the course was transferred to SRUC. The facilities here at Oatridge are much more geared towards animal based courses like Veterinary Nursing.”

“My course is a balance between being fun, challenging and rewarding. My favourite part of this course is the practical learning and my time at my training practice. Those that attend the full time course at Oatridge benefit from the placement at the Small Animal Hospital at Glasgow University Veterinary School.”

“The Vet Nursing team here at Oatridge are so supportive.”

During 2016, 100% of our Level 3 diploma student graduates successfully secured employment. Stuart is following in their footsteps and has already secured a job for after he graduates.

“Once I qualify I will be a registered Vet Nurse for Vets4Pets at Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh. I am currently employed there as a Student Vet Nurse. I am excited for the future and to have a career in something I am so passionate about.”

Stuart has an exciting future ahead of him pursuing a career in an area he loves.
