First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at the Royal Highland Show

The Principal & Chief Executive of SRUC, Professor Wayne Powell, will sit on the new Women in Agriculture taskforce announced at the Royal Highland Show by the First Minister.

The First Minister was speaking at SRUC’s Women in Agriculture breakfast at the Royal Highland Show about the results of the Scottish Government’s Women in Agriculture survey. The Women in Agriculture taskforce will consider issues such as better succession planning, more appropriate health and safety and better access to training and progression within the industry.

It will be co-chaired by Fergus Ewing, the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity and Joyce Campbell, a working farmer and entrepreneur based in North Sutherland. Prof Powell will have a key focus within the taskforce on training and education. He said: “SRUC is committed to equality and diversity in it activities – we are keen to ensure women are fairly represented within SRUC and across the Scottish farming and rural industries. I look forward to starting work with the taskforce to help move this important issue forward.”
