SRUC lecturer presents at ECLAS
SRUC Edinburgh Garden and Greenspace Design lecturer, Gerard O’Brien recently presented at the annual conference of ECLAS – European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools. This year’s conference was titled Creation/Reaction (https://eclas2017london.com/) and took place at Greenwich University in London
Gerard gave a short presentation called ‘Lived Practices’ – ‘Folk’ and ‘Place’ planning, in a session called Art & Participation. The talk looked at his own work involving people in the design of open spaces and an artist project called Dundee Urban Orchard (DUO), which is a horticulture and socially engaged project. In the presentation, Gerard compared his working method as the designer with the DUO.
Gerard said “This was my first time to give a presentation at a conference, making the experience both exciting and a wee bit terrifying! In the end the conference was inspirational, in terms of hearing about interesting work, meeting landscape professionals and academics and a couple of wonderful site visits.”
