SRUC Elmwood Alumni Golf Day
Our team at SRUC Elmwood Golf Course recently hosted an alumni golf day which brought together over 60 current and former professional golf students.

The event took the form of a shotgun start, and welcomed some of the first Elmwood pro golf students who graduated from the college back in 2008.
Competitors were kept on their toes as the closest to the hole competition on the 9th – won by Stephen Johnston – and long drive on the 17th – won by Rory Smith – had to be achieved using hickory clubs provided by Kingarrock Golf Course.
John Deere at The DoubleA Trading Company (suppliers of our turf maintenance machinery) kindly sponsored the main trophy which went to Ryan Campbell, Chris Low, Adam Morrison and Stephen Johnston. Anthony Harrison, Declan Henderson, Katie Atkinson and Andrew Ni were the runners up team.

Former students Greg Walker and Gary Foley
Competitors on the day included Gary Foley from Glasgow – who attended the college in 2014-15 and who currently works as the assistant pro at Royal Troon Golf Course.
Gary said:
“Elmwood was a great place to start. It opens up lots of doors.”
Another competitor was Greg Walker who found that the HND Professional Golf course prepared him well for all the assignments and exam elements of his PGA qualification.
Greg attended Elmwood in 2012-2013 and is also from Glasgow. He now works for the family business which specialises in distributing golf products across Europe.
Greg said:
“I would definitely recommend Elmwood to anyone who wants to be employed in the golf industry. I enjoyed my time at college; it was a good experience for me.”
SRUC Professional Golf Lecturer Fraser Hutchison said:
“This is the first alumni golf event we have staged, and given today’s success I hope it can become an annual event. It’s been a great opportunity for our current students to network with graduates and see what can be achieved employability-wise in the industry.”
