SAC Consulting Summer Placement: Ayr
Each summer, SAC Consulting offers three students the chance to undertake a summer placement at one of their offices around the country. Students who apply are in Year 3 going into Year 4 of their Honours degree, and the application process is highly competitive. The students spend the summer helping in the busy centres – shadowing experienced consultants and deciding if a job on the SAC Consulting Team is what they want to do when they finish their degree course.
Gemma Waugh, BSc Agricultural Bioscience student from Closeburn near Dumfries was working at the Ayr office. Gemma said: “I have been out on farms taking soil samples for analysis as well as assisting at Monitor Farm meetings and other events. I have also been talking to farmers to help with completing nutrient budgets and slurry store grant applications.”
“The placement was really enjoyable and over the 10 weeks I learned a lot and got to put into practice various aspects of what I was taught in the classroom.”
