Rural Business Management Student Profile – Megan Harvey
SRUC student Megan Harvey is in her first year of the Rural Business Management degree at the Edinburgh campus. We asked Megan to tell us more about herself and why she chose SRUC.
“I live on a farm right on the English/Scottish border, our farm being the first and last in England and it’s just a couple of miles from Yetholm so my closest towns are Kelso, Coldstream and Wooler. I love business and I love agriculture, so the RBM course is the perfect course for me. I am a farmers daughter who has a keen interest in the farm so this has been a massive advantage to me, being surrounded by things that I am learning about in my lectures.”
“One of the reasons I chose SRUC, was the location of SRUC’s Edinburgh campus. Once I had returned home from boarding school to work on the farm for part of my gap year this made me realise that I actually quite like being at home. When I applied through UCAS, I applied to the Agriculture and Rural Business Management courses at SRUC’s Edinburgh Campus, so that this still gave me time to decide what I wanted to do. Edinburgh is a great city and an ideal distance from home, its far enough for me to have my own independence but close enough for me to be able to come home at the weekend to work on the farm when needed. I had also spoken to people who studied at SRUC and some that still do, and they highly recommended it to me.”
“Once I finish the course I’m not entirely sure what I want to do as a career yet, but I am only in first year so I have plenty of time to decide. I have a few ideas, so I am going to gain more work experience to help me learn more about these careers.”
“The best advice I would give to others is to speak to current or past pupils of SRUC, as they will share with you their amazing experiences.”
