Peteris Sadovskis – Golf Course Management
Peteris and his young family came over to Scotland from Latvia in 2011 where he spent his time improving his English and working seasonally at the St Andrews Links courses.
His employer recommended Peteris attend the Greenkeeping course at Elmwood and Peteris won the class prize of “Best Practical Student of the Year.” He enjoyed the course so much that he continued his studies and recently completed the HNC Golf Course Management where he received the John Deere sponsored SRUC Elmwood HNC “Student of the Year 2016” Award.
Peteris is now employed as a full-time Greenkeeper at the New & Jubilee Courses at St Andrews Links. He said:
“I am very happy and proud to be working on one of the oldest Golf Courses in the World.”
Motivated by a desire to be a professional greenkeeper and having enjoyed the different aspects of soil science, the management of turf and the actual construction of the golf course, Peteris is now studying towards the HND Golf Course Management through distance learning.
“I really enjoyed learning in a class environment, but I feel the background knowledge I have gained has made the transition to distance learning easier.”
Peteris says that he has already looked into further study and would like to do land-based engineering at Scotland’s Rural College in the future so that he can repair and maintain the greenkeeping equipment.
“I want to be as professional as I can and I never want to leave the environment of the golf course.”
