Opening doors to the agriculture industry, and progressing within the field

Joanna Foubister is a Trainee Agricultural Consultant at the SAC Consulting Office in Stonehaven.

“I applied to study SRUC’s MSc Agricultural Professional Practice after deciding I wanted to pursue a career in agriculture. Having been brought up on a farm, agriculture has always been a significant part of my life but has never been featured on my CV. Shortly after starting my first semester of study I thought about applying for jobs within the sector which was never an option for me before.”

“As an agricultural consultant you need to be well versed in all aspects of the industry, and I firmly believe the course is diverse but clearly focused to teach me the practical skillset and underpinning theory in order for me to develop my career. There is opportunity to choose varying specialisms allowing me to tailor my learning experience to fit around my job or specific interests.”

“When I applied for the course I didn’t necessarily know what my chosen career would be but I knew I had a passion for the industry. It has certainly opened doors for me and I have been able to marry my career with my passion which gives me an enthusiasm to learn and progress within the field.”
