New Student Ambassador for Bioscience in the South West
Sophia Germain (pictured centre) is currently studying Applied Bioscience and hopes to go on to study Applied Animal Science at the Barony Campus in Dumfries, she tells us a bit about herself here:
Hello, my name is Sophia and I am studying on the Bioscience HND course at the Ayr Riverside campus. I chose this course because it incorporates all the things that interest me, biology, science relevant to animals and the study of environmental awareness and the ways we can slow down global warming. These are all invaluable and relevant subjects to be studying, the more we become conscious of climate change.
I am in my second year at SRUC, studying Bioscience. I initially applied just to do the HNC course however I enjoyed my time at SRUC so much I decided to do another year. The support and care you get from your lecturers were like no other I had experienced at other institutions. Amongst the support I had gotten from my lecturers throughout the academic year Joy Kendall, the campuses Student Support Tutor was always there for a good chat to clear your mind and let out your worries. She provided me with advice about studying and helped me through any concerns I had.
This year I look forward mostly to the lab practical lectures as they were my favourite last year and sharing some of my experiences as student ambassador. The lab at the Riverside campus is fully equipped and safe and always makes for an interesting lesson. SRUC is currently undergoing safety measures to ensure we can go back to the labs as soon as possible despite the outbreak of COVID-19 which me and the rest of my course are very happy about. After this course I intend on continuing with my studies on a relevant BSc course such as Applied Animal Science held at the Barony or Edinburgh campuses.
