New Entrants to Farming

The Scottish Government is committed to developing opportunities to encourage new entrants into the farming industry. A government working group, Farming Opportunities for New Entrants (FONE), has begun work and includes support from SRUC’s Consultancy division.

Land will shortly be released which should allow 50 new farms to be created across Scotland – you can read more about this story on the BBC website, or here at the Farmers Weekly.

1000ha of land, currently owned by Scottish Water, Forestry Enterprise Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and East Lothian and Highland Councils will be let out for a fixed period to young new entrants into the industry.

SRUC has been working with new entrants to farming for some time – you can read about some of the support we offer on our SAC Consulting pages. There are also some great Case Studies in this section, from those new to farming which make a lovely read.
