Michael Clark – Horticulture
Michael Clark, a mature student from Milton of Balgonie, recently started his own business after completing NC Horticulture and SVQ Level3 Parks, Gardens and Green spaces, and winning the class prize in both.
Michael, who previously served with the Royal Navy, nurtured a keen interest in horticulture and three years ago joined the National Certificate in Horticulture at Elmwood campus. He excelled in all aspects of the course and decided that he would like to start his own Landscaping and Gardening Company, Clark’s Landscaping and Gardening, with his brother David.
Michael felt that he did not have enough experience in managing jobs and enrolled on the SVQ Level 3 Full Time Horticultural Course. Michael says what he has learned on the course has been vital for his business. Michael passed his driving test last year and has now purchased a van and equipment and already is building a steady client base.
Michael says he would recommend the course and Elmwood to others.
“The horticulture department have been so supportive and encouraging – and the Study Centre and support staff are all very helpful. Elmwood has given me a new lease of life”.
Having first heard about the Elmwood horticulture department from a lecturer at the Auchmuty Learning Centre and regularly returns to the centre where he received the Adult Learning Certificate of Recognition award and tell others about his journey into education.
“I hope my talk can inspire just one person to make that change”.
