Growing a hobby into a career – David McKay
I applied to the Organic Farming MSc programme with SRUC because I was hoping to turn a hobby of growing vegetables into a potential new career. I did so with some hesitation, as my professional background is in journalism and I have little practical experience of farming.
So far, the course has been very enjoyable, and I would say inspiring and challenging in equal measure.
Like many others, I am juggling coursework with family commitments and work. I started up my own freelance PR/communications business, Field Media Strategy, at the same time as I began the course, which has kept me busy to say the least!
Lou and the rest of the staff have all been fantastic – and extremely helpful on the first study weekend. My new classmates are a very friendly and enthusiastic bunch. we hail from all corners of the UK, Ireland and Europe, but share a passion for all things organic. Looking forward to the rest of the course!
