Fraser Baillie, Modern Apprentice
Fraser undertook a Modern Apprenticeship at Bryson Tractors in Lanark.
Fraser is from a farming background and was involved in agricultural machinery from a very young age as his family run an agricultural contracting business.
“I was always keen to get stuck in when it came to servicing and repairing our machinery when I was still at school. Over the years I started to grow a great passion for this line of work and when I left school, I knew this was the job for me. I spent a year at Barony Campus where I studied the NC Land-based Engineering. This helped me to pick up the fundamentals of many different topics throughout the agricultural industry.”
Work experience is part of the NC course, which Fraser undertook at Bryson Tractors. After completing his work experience, Fraser was offered an apprenticeship with the dealership.
“I work in a busy New Holland dealership spending much of my time carrying out routine 600 and 1200 hour services. I am also involved with carrying out agricultural repairs, such as welding, electrical and transmission repairs. I have found it very satisfying working in this industry. When I bring a machine into the workshop to repair or service, it is always very rewarding when you watch it drive back out and you know that you have carried out all the work required and it is now in a good working condition.”
“I have learned so much and gained lots of experience from just trying new jobs and giving everything my best shot. In this industry I would definitely say if you work with this attitude you will have a good chance.”
