ESOL visit from Thorntons Law
Pauline Blake- Johnston, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Co-ordinator at Elmwood campus in Cupar, recently invited local solicitors, Thorntons, to give a talk to her international learners about Scottish law.
The informal chat by Lisa Hainey, Senior Solicitor in the Private Clients Team and trainee Iona Anderson, provided the students with the opportunity to find out more about wills, estates and the power of attorney.
The information, particularly about the differences between Scottish law and their own countries and how they are considered to be domiciled in Scotland was well received.
“Having Lisa and Iona visit the ESOL learners was fascinating, and it also highlighted some interesting differences in laws between Scotland and other countries. Not only was it was hugely informative, helpful and well appreciated by the students but it will help them to understand their legal position here in Scotland.”
