Equine Studies: Emily Stewart

Emily Stewart is studying an HND in Equine Studies at SRUC’s Oatridge campus. Emily came to us with a keen interest in horses and chose SRUC because of its renowned, excellent facilities. Emily also found the variety that SRUC offers to be very impressive: “The selection of horses on the Equine courses is excellent as there really is something for every type of rider.”

The learning process at SRUC doesn’t focus on one area, but rather incorporates theory, practical and personal support as a means of delivering a more holistic experience. What has Emily most enjoyed about the course? “Making new friends, having helpful and supportive lecturers who also recognise good work and reward for it, learning new skills through theory and practical sessions.”

In the future, Emily hopes to become a travelling groom for a few years before completing an animal physiotherapy degree, specialising in equine. Emily recognises the important role that SRUC has played in her professional and personal development: “Having the Scottish National Equestrian Centre (SNEC) to ride and have lessons in is a great experience and these facilities couldn’t get any better. The classrooms and canteen are also great learning and socialising facilities.”
