Animal Care: Sarah Stuart
Sarah Stuart previously studied for an HND in Advertising and PR but after graduation, she realised that she had no real passion or motivation for working in the field of marketing and made the life changing decision to switch career paths.
Sarah was offered a place on the NC Introduction level at the Aberdeen campus: “I really enjoyed being part of the SRUC Aberdeen family during that first few months. Studying animal care was all so new for me but the lecturers were so supportive and approachable. More than anything, I was so surprised by the wide variety of animals on site in the animal care unit and couldn’t wait to learn and develop my skills with reptiles, fish, rabbits and even Shetland ponies as well as much more.“
Sarah then went on to pass the NC Animal Care, and is now in the first year of the HND and is thoroughly enjoying the course content. “The great thing about studying Animal Care is that it offers such a wide range of employment opportunities as well as options to progress onto university if you pass the HND. SRUC offers such a wide variety of courses and progression possibilities with lots of opportunities and I have greatly enjoyed my time on the campus. I have formed great friendships with other students and made so many connections within the animal care sector, which will greatly benefit me when I graduate and begin looking for employment.”
When Sarah completes her HND in 2020, she hopes to find employment within a zoo or wildlife park in Scotland, and would love to begin volunteering for the SSPCA. Her dream job, however, would be to work or be involved with the Highland Wildlife Park near Aviemore.
