A SRUCcessful Farming Business
SRUC Edinburgh PhD student Jillian Gordon introduces us to Hillhead of Covington, a family run business with an SRUC connection.
Hillhead of Covington is a dairy farm milking 400 Holstein cows on the banks of the river Clyde. Owned and ran by the Baillie family, health and welfare of the herd comes first.
William is an alum of SRUC studying agriculture and his daughter Abbie is now following on and is a current agriculture student at SRUC Edinburgh campus. Additionally the team includes an SRUC Rural Business Management student, an Animal Science alum and a future SRUC student. At the start of the year Hillhead of Covington diversified and started selling their own small batch pasteurised milk and milkshakes locally (@tintohilltearoom @brownliesofbiggar). This has been hugely successful and we look forward to seeing this side of the business grow. @hillheadofcovington
